APACVS position on the July 16, 2009 NEJM article "Endoscopic versus Open Vein-Graft Harvesting in Coronary-Artery Bypass Grafting" by Lopes, et al.
The APACVS is aware of the recent publication of data that questions the
outcomes of graft patency, MACE, and death in endoscopic versus open vein
harvest . We are in agreement that further prospective, randomized,
controlled studies should be performed to help answer these questions as
there have been conflicting reports in the literature. The APACVS will be
following the outcomes of these studies closely, as our members continually
strive to provide our patients with the safest and highest quality care
available.
